Krazy Glue Ad

This project is an exploration of proper appropriation within an advertisement.

Assignment

Create an ad. The ad will be either a Point Of Sale or Out Of Home advertisement.

The ad should center around a strong message, be eye-catching, memorable and shareable. This ad should follow along with existing brand attributes.

Assigned Product: Krazy Glue

Rationale

When something breaks it is a disaster! Not just a mess caused by the thing that has smashed but it is an emotional disaster that everyone can relate to. Most people would assume that when something breaks it is merrily their rotten luck. The Krazy Glue product line is made to tackle this bad luck by mending those disastrous breaks.

This advertisement utilizes the appropriation of a recognizable character narrative that a wide audience can connect to. Specifically, appropriating Scrat’s narrative form the well-known Ice Age movies. The story of this character is very well known as the crazy squirrel like character ties to hide its precious acorn wherever it can, but normally its attempts end in a planetary disaster. In this way Scrat’s bad luck is relatable to the problems faced by the Krazy Glue consumer. Thus this ad positions the Krazy glue product line as the tool that can fix anything, any disaster small in size or as large as the one created by Scrat.

This advertisement will undoubtedly capture the attention of the audience both the adults that have grown up on the movies and through the children who see the add and note that Scrat out of luck completely but has a chance.

The ad’s design is adaptable to both horizontal and vertical layouts making it possible to mount it on multiple OOH formats. The typography used on the poster to write “finally success” is depicting a message form Scrat, Krazy Glue as the savoir of Scrat's disaster narrative allows Scrat to finally succeed. Like a loud whisper of a successful narrative that was not meant to exist in the movies.

Please note the proper credits acknowledged for the appropriation of the character. Credits to the character and the Ice Age movies. No copyright infringement intended.
